So... Pickle and Peanut...

I guess in a desperate attempt of Disney to cash in on the fame of Cartoon Network's Regular Show and Nickelodeon's Breadwinners, they go ahead and greenlight this confusing series, Pickle and Peanut.

I gotta tell ya, the minute I heard Noah Z. Jones, creator of Fish Hooks and Almost Naked Animals, was behind this, I was expecting this to be pretty bad, aaaaaand I guess it kinda was. I get that those two shows went off to be big hits for kids, but they do not hold up once you grow older. This show doesn't completely follow the formula of Regular Show where everything is grounded but then transitions to batsh*t insaneness, but instead is just random and silly throughout. And although I see the somewhat genuine bromance between Pickle and Peanut (though their "bro dancin' and chantin'" can get annoying at times), they just act as silly and incompetent as those two ducks from Breadwinners, granted they're nicer guys than those green, simple-shaped abominations.

The art style is okay imo. I liked the experimental designs for most of the side characters, though it kinda bugs me how Pickle and Peanut are just photoshopped images of a pickle and a peanut with Noah Z. Jones's simple-styled faces on them, which makes it really distracting how they stand out from everyone else.

The craziest thing here is that you would never in your life expect this kind of show to have the Disney name on it. The music is just too bizarre and minimalistic, and the randomness gets too out of hand at times. I'm at least glad they haven't resorted to toilet humor like most kids shows nowadays (hope I didn't jinx that), but sheesh do a lot of random events happen for no reason, which would be forgivable if they were funny, but they're not.

And I think that's the main problem with this show. It's too random and it didn't make up for it with its humor, so we're left with a zit growing out of Pickle's butt and causing havoc in the town, a girl with a foot for a head with a running gag that drags for too long where Pickle finds it sexy, and an old grandma going to grandma jail (yeah, it's as silly as it sounds).

And I'm not even going to comment on the credits music.

Okay fine I will. It's lazy.

I dunno, after the shows kids choose to watch nowadays, who knows if this becomes a hit. Regardless, it's just an uninspired, unfunny mess. Just stick with Gravity Falls and Star Vs.
